This term is used frequently, but I wasn’t sure about its meaning.

This is a Latin phrase that means “for this” or “for this purpose”. In the context of computing and problem-solving, “ad hoc” is used to describe solutions or approaches that are designed or implemented for a specific problem or situation, without necessarily adhering to established standards, conventions, or formal methodologies.

The term “ad hoc” has been adopted in various fields, including computer science, engineering, and business, to describe strategies, methods, or systems. In computing, ad hoc solutions may involve writing custom scripts or workarounds to solve a particular problem quickly.
