Yesterday Indian Oil company launched a composite cylinder. In India more than 95% of us use these cylinders. Even if many people don’t use regularly, it is very important for us to know about the usage of cylinders. This is for our safety and our near and dear ones safety.
There are many advantages with these new composite cylinders I felt:
- Biggest benefit of these composite cylinders is they are not explosive. In emergency cases they do not explode like traditional cylinders. We can avoid many kitchen related accidents which we keep hearing once a while.
Other advantages of these cylinders are
- Light weight
- Rust proof
- Check the level of gas
Its great that Indian gas companies could do research and come up with technology cylinders.
Some important points we all should know and teach others too:
- A cylinder should be placed upright and should be below the level of gas stove.
- Use only Suraksha rubber tube and change once in 5 years atleast.
- No self repairs of stove or cylinders :)
- Do not place puja lamps or refrigerator near gas. In case of any leak, they can catch fire.
- If you smell gas, close regulator and burner knobs immediately. Open all doors and windows. Do not operate any electric switches. Call 1906 immediately.
- PDC (pre delivery check) is must as far as possible.
Some technical points on gas:
- Ethyl Mercaptan is a chemical added to LPG (Liquified Petroleum Gas) to detect the gas leakage
- LPG is compressed. LPG contains propane, butane, Isobutane, its density varies around1.5 to 2 times comparing to air.
- LPG is colorless
